NSW: Scully says no record of Waterfall train 'surging'
SYDNEY, Feb 13 AAP - NSW Transport Minister Carl Scully today said there was no recordof a surging problem with the train involved in last month's fatal crash south of Sydney.
Mr Scully was responding to claims by Opposition Leader John Brogden that at leastone driver reported problems of surging with the four-carriage train which derailed southof Waterfall, killing seven people.
"I'm advised that the maintenance records of the train do not support John Brogden'sstatement," Mr Scully told reporters.
"That is to say, the maintenance records of the train do not show any record of thetrain surging."
Mr Scully confirmed a report of the train's motor losing power on January 8, but hesaid the train was checked by mechanics who found no fault.
All relevant document and computer records relating to the train's maintenance andrepairs were being placed before Justice Peter McInerney, who is heading an investigationinto the January 31 crash, Mr Scully said.
