Fed: Low Howard govt turnout for Cheney speech

SYDNEY, Feb 23 AAP - Government ministers were conspicuous by their absence at the
set piece of US Vice-President Dick Cheney's Australian visit today.

The speech to the Australian American Leadership Dialogue was the opening engagement
of Mr Cheney's three-day trip.

Held in the ballroom of Sydney's Shangri-La Hotel, the invitation-only event drew a
mixed crowd of diplomats, military types and the occasional media star inside - and a
host of protesters and police outside.
